David is a Colombian musician :
I would like to start when I was 14 years old, with my first approach to the guitar that happened because of my cousin. He used to play guitar in a reggae band, and that gave to me the first tools to start the musical journey (first chords, and some left hand technique).
But in that time I didn’t play enough to have a good level.
Later on, I took some lessons in a local music academy with a good teacher, Sergio Roa, he tough to me the basic techniques of the electric guitar (alternate picking, legato, and a proper right and left hand technique).
And when the magic of the guitar haunted me, I decided to study music at the College , my teacher there was Luis Gaitán, and he gave to me some advance skills and really valuable lessons to make me a better guitar player and musician.
As a guitar player, my strongest skills are in electric guitar, I really like legato technique, vibrato and bends, also compose my own music. I enjoy to do musical fusion between genres (my favorites are funk, rock, and the harmony of jazz).
Now a day, I play in two bands, one of them is called “Viajante” that means Traveller in English. It’s a rock band that make some fusions with other genres like funk or jazz, and uses elements of the prog rock.
For this band I play the guitar and sing, meanwhile, in the second one I play guitar and sing backing vocals, that band is named “Los Medina”, is a pop rock band, that also makes some fusions with other genres, like funk and reggae.
By the time that I finished my career, I did it with the musical arrangement field, and I have learned the function and the importance of many instruments (bass, drums, keyboards, brass, strings, voice, etc..) in various genres (funk, soul, blues, rock, jazz, pop, traditional music from different countries), and how to do arrangements with those tools.
Talking about my experience as a teacher, I have been teaching to some kids with basic knowledge about guitar and music theory in personal lessons.
That gave to me an order to follow with new students depending of their level, and what they want to learn specifically.
